WHAT IS GAGAN(GPS-aided geo-augmented navigation)

The GPS aided geo augmented navigation or GPS and geo-augmented navigation system (GAGAN) is a planned implementation of a regional satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS) by the Indian government. It is a system to improve the accuracy of a GNSS receiver by providing reference signals.[2] The AAI’s efforts towards implementation of operational SBAS can be viewed as the first step towards introduction of modern communication, navigation, surveillance/Air Traffic Management system over Indian airspace.[3]
The project involves establishment of 15 Indian Reference Stations, three Indian Navigation Land Uplink Stations, three Indian Mission Control Centers and installation of all associated software and communication links. GAGAN is planned to get into operation by the year 2014. It will be able to help pilots to navigate in the Indian airspace by an accuracy of 3 m. This will be helpful for landing aircraft in tough weather and terrain like Mangalore airport and Leh.

The INR774 crore (US$146 million) project is being implemented in three phases through 2008 by the Airport Authority of India with the help of the Indian Space Research Organization's (ISRO) technology and space support.[4] The goal is to provide navigation system for all phases of flight over the Indian airspace and in the adjoining area. It is applicable to safety-to-life operations, and meets the performance requirements of international civil aviation regulatory bodies.
The space component will become available after the GAGAN payload on the GSAT-8 communication satellite, which was launched recently, is switched on. This payload was also on the GSAT-4 satellite that was lost when the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) failed during launch in April 2010. Final System Acceptance Test will be conducted during June 2012 followed by system certification during July 2013.
A national plan for satellite navigation including implementation of Technology Demonstration System (TDS) over the Indian air space as a proof of concept had been prepared jointly by Airports Authority of India (AAI) and ISRO. TDS was successfully completed during 2007 by installing eight Indian Reference Stations (INRESs) at eight Indian airports and linked to the Master Control Center (MCC) located near Bangalore. Preliminary System Acceptance Testing has been successfully completed in December 2010.[4] The ground segment for GAGAN, which has been put up by the Raytheon, has 15 reference stations scattered across the country. Two mission control centres, along with associated uplink stations, have been set up at Kundalahalli in Bangalore. One more control centre and uplink station are to come up at Delhi. As a part of the programme, a network of 18 total electron content (TEC) monitoring stations were installed at various locations in India to study and analyse the behaviour of the ionosphere over the Indian region.
GAGAN's TDS signal in space provides a three-metre accuracy as against the requirement of 7.6 metres. Flight inspection of GAGAN signal is being carried out at KozhikodeHyderabadNagpurand Bangalore airports and the results have been satisfactory so far.

HOW TO RUN PS2 GAMES ON PC

First of all a warning. Many of you will not be able to run these games properly. They’ll lag on a lot of PC’s. On some of them they’ll lag even more. When emulating PlayStation 2 and Xbox games, you always have to keep in mind the next equasion:
Your computer is X <=> PlayStation 2/Xbox games will play (like) X-1
To remove the above mentioned ‘-1‘ factor, you can pay more attention to the specific type of game you’re trying to play. Naturally, visually simple games like ‘Disgaea’ will run smoother than 3D, over the top graphical shooters, like ‘Black’. In short, your computer will never completely be a PlayStation 2.
We’ll be guiding you through this process in a few simple steps.

Step 1 – Download and install PCSX2

PCSX2 comes in two packages. A binary package (which you have to un7zip) and aninstallation file. Just install or extract it to the folder of your choice.

Step 2 – Getting the BIOS files

Contrary to the first PlayStation, the PlayStation 2 uses several BIOS files. Basically, these are the hardest to find. Because they are copyrighted material, you are only allowed to own these files if you also own a PlayStation 2. MakeUseOf does NOT encourage piracy! This is also the reason why it’s illegal to host these files online. If you actually own a PlayStation 2 though, it’s not illegal to download them (laws may differ in your country).
So now you basically have two options layed out for you. You can either dump them from your PlayStation 2 yourself, or find someone else who dumped them and who put the files online. On this last website you can find the ROM1, eROM and the SECAM-, NTSC- and PAL BIOS files you’ll need. Again, you must’nt download them if you don’t have a PlayStation 2. You can put these files in a folder of you’re choice.

Step 3 – Running PCSX2 and configuring BIOS, video and controller input

The program comes in two different versions. One version uses TLB (pcsx2t.exe), the other one Virtual Memory (pcsx2.exe). First of all, try running the VM version. The program will try to reallocate the memory, after which you have to log off and on again. If it fails to do so, you’ll have to use the TLB version. This one is somewhat slower, but according to the developers the speed difference is not that great.
After you’ve started up, select ‘Config’ -> ‘Configure’.
First, we’re going to configure our BIOS. Press ‘Set Bios Directory’ and select the folder where you’ve put your BIOS files. Back in the Configuration screen, select the correct region from the Bios drop-down menu. You might want to change this now and then, depending on your games.
epsx2biosconf
Next, the video plug-ins. PCSX2 comes with ZeroGS KOSMOS and GSdx9 plug-ins. A ‘Ps2 Output’ window (which looks similar to the command screen) normally opened when you started PCSX2. Else, temporarily close the Configuration screen, select ‘Misc’ -> ‘Enable Console’ and restart the program. In this Ps2 Output screen, look if ‘Detected SSE2′ is stated under Features. If not, you might want to choose the ‘no SSE2′ video plug-in.
ps2output
If you press the ‘Configure…’ button under the video drop-down menu, you can tweak graphic related options like screen size, toggle full-screen, anti-aliasing and more.
As for the controller, I highly recommend LilyPad. This is one of the most adjustable plug-ins. You can use keyboard, mouse and controller input. There even is a setting so you can use your Guitar Hero guitar.
Just download it here, and drop it in the plugins directory. If you’ve used the installer, that would be C:\Program Files\Pcsx2_0.9.4\plugins .
Re-open the Configuration screen, select LilyPad from the drop-down menu and press configure. In the ‘General’ tab, you can tweak various settings. Select the ‘Pad 1′ or ‘Pad 2′ tab to configure the keys.

Step 4 – Test-driving and alternative plug-ins

With everything set up, it’s about time for a test-drive. We’re going to look if everything works as it should, and look which points need more improvement.
We can boot the games, depending on the plug-in we use, either by CD/DVD or by using animage file. The standard configuration uses Linuzappz, which is able to boot ISO’s and other image files. To do this, just select ‘File’ -> ‘Run CD/DVD’.
If you want to boot from a disc instead, go back to the configuration screen and select the P.E.Op.S driver from the Cdvdrom dropdown menu. Press configure to select an interface (based on your operating system) and the drive you want to use. Confirm your configuration and you’re ready to roll. Select ‘File’ -> ‘Run CD/DVD’ to boot from the chosen drive.
At this point you’ll be prompted for a date and a timezone, after which the game will start. If you’ve got problems with the graphics or sound, try using one of the the other plug-ins. You can get more additional plug-ins here.
If you’re still having problems, check the compatibility status of your game here.
Have fun!

how to make a bootable pendrive

The USB flash drive has replaced the floppy disk drive as the best storage medium for transferring files, but it also has its uses as a replacement for CDs and DVDs. USB drives tend to be higher in capacity than disc media, but since they are more expensive, they cannot (yet) really be used as a replacement. There are reasons why you would, however, choose a USB device over a DVD disc, and bootable software is definitely one of them. Not only is it faster to copy data such as setup files from a USB drive, but during usage the access times are also significantly faster. Therefore, installing something like Windows 7 will work that much faster from a USB drive than from a DVD (and of course, is particularly useful for the PCs without an optical drive; this isn't something we should just leave for the pirates to enjoy).
This guide will show you two different ways to create a USB flash drive that works just like a Windows 7 DVD. In order to follow this guide, you'll need a USB flash drive with at least 4GB of free space and a copy of the Windows 7 installation disc.

Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool

You are normally given this tool when you purchase from the online Microsoft Store.
windows_7_usb_1.png
The easiest way to turn a USB flash drive into a bootable Windows 7 installer is by using the tool Microsoft offers, cunningly named the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. To get started, download the installer [exe] from Microsoft.com and follow the basic steps to put it onto your computer; you can put it on the computer you plan to install Windows 7 on or another one, it doesn't matter.
windows_7_usb_2.png
Once it is installed, it should create an icon on your desktop, so double-click that to open. If you can't find it, use the search function in the Start Menu with a keyword like "USB." Launching it should give you the above screen, and step one is to find the Windows 7 .ISO file. The tool only accepts .ISO images, so we recommend that you convert yours if it's in a different DVD image format.
windows_7_usb_3.png
Step two is straightforward: simply choose USB device.
windows_7_usb_4.png
In step three, all you have to do is make sure that you are choosing the correct USB device. If you have other data on the device, move it to your hard drive, another USB device, or somewhere else before proceeding.
windows_7_usb_5.png
The tool will prompt you if it detects data on the device. Once your data is backed up elsewhere, click Erase USB Device.
windows_7_usb_6.png
You will get another prompt warning you that all the data will be wiped. Click Yes to continue.
windows_7_usb_7.png
The format will be very quick, while the copying of the files will take a little bit more time (about 10 to 15 minutes).
windows_7_usb_8.png
Once the process is complete, you should get the above confirmation message. At this point you can close the tool and use the USB drive to install Windows 7. Remember that you'll have to choose to boot off the USB drive. Before doing so, you may want to open up the USB drive and double click on setup.exe to see if everything looks okay. If you want to be able to do this manually, see the next section, and if you want to be able to install any edition of Windows 7, skip to the section after that.

how to install windows 7 via usb

This guide works 100% for Windows 7 and Windows 8 unlike most of the guides out there. I have seen many sites/blogs that have “Install Vista from USB guide” but either with incomplete steps or not working guide. I have also seen some guides that don’t’ use proper commands in this guide. After spending many hours I have come up with this 100% working guide to install Windows 7 and Windows 8 from USB flash drive.
Bootable USB drive
I just did this method on one of my friends machine and installed Windows 7 and Windows 8 . The main advantage is that by using USB drive you will be able to installWindows 7 or Windows 8 in just 15 minutes. You can also use this bootable USB drive on friend’s computer who doesn’t have a DVD optical drive.
The method is very simple and you can use without any hassles. Needless to say that your motherboard should support USB Boot feature to make use of the bootable USB drive.
Requirements:
*USB Flash Drive (Minimum 4GB)
*Windows 7 or Windows 8 installation files.
Follow the below steps to create bootable Windows 7/Windows 8 USB drive using which you can install Windows 7 or Windows 8 easily.
Procedure:
1. Plug-in your USB flash drive to USB port and move all the contents from USB drive to a safe location on your system.
2. Open Command Prompt with admin rights. Use any of the below methods to open Command Prompt with admin rights.
*Type cmd in Start menu search box and hit CtrlShiftEnter.
Or
*Go to Start menu > All programs > Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
3. You need to know about the USB drive a little bit. Type in the following commands in the command prompt:
First type DISKPART and hit enter to see the below message.
Bootable USB Drive
Next type LIST DISK command and note down the Disk number (ex: Disk 1) of your USB flash drive. In the below screenshot my Flash Drive Disk no is Disk 1.
4. Next type all the below commands one by one. Here I assume that your disk drive no is “Disk 1”.If you have Disk 2 as your USB flash drive then use Disk 2.Refer the above step to confirm it.
So below are the commands you need to type and execute one by one:
SELECT DISK 1
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1
ACTIVE
FORMAT FS=NTFS
(Format process may take few seconds)
ASSIGN
EXIT
Don’t close the command prompt as we need to execute one more command at the next step. Just minimize it.
Bootable USB Drive
5. Next insert your Windows7/Windows 8 DVD into the optical drive and check the drive letter of the DVD drive. In this guide I will assume that your DVD drive letter is “D” and USB drive letter is “H” (open my computer to know about it).
6. Maximize the minimized Command Prompt in the 4th step.Type  the following command now:
D: CD BOOT and hit enter.Where “D” is your DVD drive letter.
CD BOOT and hit enter to see the below message.
7. Type another command given below to update the USB drive with BOOTMGR compatible code.
BOOTSECT.EXE /NT60 H:
14
Where “H” is your USB drive letter. Once you enter the above command you will see the below message.
8. Copy your Windows 7 or Windows 8 DVD contents to the USB flash drive.
9. Your USB drive is ready to boot and install Windows 7 or Windows 8. Only thing you need to change the boot priority at the BIOS to USB from the HDD or CD ROM drive. I won’t explain it as it’s just the matter the changing the boot priority or enabling the USB boot option in the BIOS.
Note: If you are not able to boot after following this guide means you haven’t set the BIOS priority to USB. If you got any problem in following this guide feel free to ask questions by leaving comment.
Update on Jan 11, 2012: If you find this guide difficult to follow, please use the easy-to-use guide to create a bootable USB to install Windows 7  or Windows 8 using official tool.
This guide works 100% for Windows 8 as well. Make sure you follow all steps correctly and launch the Command Prompt with admin rights (as given in the guide) to avoid errors. Good luck!

TOSHIBA SATELLITE U840

Toshiba Satellite U840

Summary

Toshiba's latest ultrabook offering in India, the Satellite U840 retails for roughly Rs. 53500. It faces some stiff competition from HP (Envy 4) and Samsung (Series 5). What we cannot get around is the fact that while the rivals are offering pretty powerful graphics with their ultrabooks in the same price range, Toshiba has sent out the U840 with just integrated graphics. System performance overall is fine, but the rivals tend to make more sense because of the better graphics option for that light gaming session.Toshiba Satellite U840-1-336.jpg
Features & Specifications
For ultrabooks, the Ivy Bridge Core i5-3317U processor is the most popular one in ultrabooks these days. It is clocked at 1.7GHz, with Turbo Boost taking it to 2.6GHz. This is helped along by 4GB of RAM, with one free slot that lets you increase the memory to 8GB.
The 14-inch display size seems to be rather popular with ultrabooks, particularly the second generation ones. The resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels is pretty much standard fare across the board now as well. The Toshiba Satellite U840 display is reflective, and seems to be slightly more so than the Samsung Series 5, but on the same platform as the HP Envy 4. Native brightness is a tad higher than the HP, but it does not handle colours as well on the higher end of the brightness scale – but that is true for most displays. There is adequate crispness to make text readability comfortable, and also helps with the video playback quality.
We had mentioned that the keypad on the much more expensive Dell XPS 14 is on the flatter side, in terms of the key height and design. The Toshiba Satellite U840 is even flatter. It does take a lot of time to get used to the lesser key travel. Somehow, the keys seem slimmer, not in terms of width, but with the height. We cannot understand why so many tweaks were needed on a keyboard. Not many people realize it, but getting used to a different layout does take time. Why add an unnecessary learning curve in the midst of what could be a seamless shift-over experience? The Toshiba Satellite U840’s touchpad works very well, and the response will be assured and works without fail.
In terms of storage, the Satellite U840 is on terms with the rivals – 500GB hard drive for primary storage and a 32GB flash storage for caching tasks.
Performance
With relatively similar specs to the Samsung Series 5 and the almost the same as the HP Envy 4, you would expect similar performance. And yes, for that part, the U840 delivers very well. It is very slightly behind the other two in the PC Mark Vantage test, but scores the best in the PC Mark 07 test – 4220 to HP’s 3150 and Samsung’s 2371. On paper, this would be a very quick ultrabook to use. However, in the real life usage scenario, the Windows installation does seem slightly sluggish. Apps take time to open, and the response time fluctuates quite a bit – between quick and slow. And we can’t blame too many preloaded apps on the system, because Toshiba’s machines are by far the cleanest of the lot. Plus, even our clean and tweak process prior to the benchmark tests didn’t help at all. And yes, the flash storage was active! This squarely puts the Toshiba Satellite U840 behind the HP Envy and the Samsung Series 5 in terms of the real world usage scenario. Just to be doubly sure, we reinstalled the OS on this ultrabook, and things became much better. The sluggish nature of the machine went out of the Window, completely. This clearly indicated some bloating of the Windows OS that came installed on this machine, could be because of some apps that were installed and then uninstalled.
If you will be using the ultrabook for a bit of gaming, for example, the Toshiba Satellite U840 isn’t the one to buy. This one doesn’t have a dedicated graphics chip, which is a huge surprise considering the immediate rivals offer rather powerful solutions. For a machine depending on Intel HD 4000 graphics, there isn’t much point in comparing it with machines that are significantly more powerful.
Battery life is an area where the U840 does quite okay. In our full load battery test, this lasted 185 minutes on a single charge, compared to the HP that did 223 minutes and the Samsung that did 229 minutes. However, you are still looking at around 5.5 hours of backup in a real world typical usage scenario, which is pretty good.

File:Samsung Galaxy Note.jpgThe Samsung Galaxy Note is an Android smartphone/tablet computer hybrid ("phablet"), introduced in October 2011 and noted for its 5.3-inch screen size—between that of conventional smartphones, and larger tablets—and its included stylus.

The Galaxy Note was announced by Samsung during IFA 2011 in Berlin. It was released to the public starting with Germany in late October 2011, with other countries following shortly after that.[6] By the end of November, it was available in most major markets, including East Asia, Europe and India.
In December 2011, Samsung announced that one million Galaxy Notes were shipped in less than two months, and that a North American variantwould be available in February 2012.[7] In January 2012, the US version of the Galaxy Note was featured at the 2012 CES in Las Vegas, allowing press to get an early look at the new device.[8]
As of the first quarter of 2012 from January to March, 5 million have been sold.[9] As of 1 June 2012, Samsung announced that 7 million had been shipped.[10] As of 15 August 2012, Samsung announced that 10 million devices have been sold. The Galaxy Note, with a 135 mm (5.3 in) screen, is sized between smartphones such as the Galaxy S IIand the Galaxy Tab tablet. PC World Australia opined that Samsung Galaxy Note is too big to be a true mobile phone, citing the difficulty of using it single-handed.[12] This hybrid is being called a phablet byForbes and Engadget. Phablet is a portmanteau of the words phone and tablet.[13] Techradar questions Samsung Galaxy Note's marketability as users cannot store it in a small pocket and that users look ungainly when holding it against their faces while conversing.[14] GigaOM hails it as a pioneer in a new market segment, despite the similar but unsuccessful Dell Streak, combining the best features of both device types.[15] Pocket-lint has remarked that Samsung Galaxy Note shows potential as a games console.[16]
Like most recent smartphones and tablets, the device is constructed in the "slate" format (see Slate phoneand Slate tablet). The body is built from plastic with a metallised rim.[17] The front panel is Gorilla Glass,[18]a strengthened glass often used for high-end devices such as this.
The front panel houses one physical "home" button (for activating the device and switching to the home screen), two illuminated touch pads ("menu" and "back"), the display, the front-facing camera, and lightand proximity sensors. At the back is a thin plastic snap-on panel with an indent for a fingernail to facilitate removal, for access to the 2500mAh battery, SIM card and SD Card. The back panel houses the speaker and main camera and flash. The metallic rim houses several controls: at the top edge is the 4-pole 3.5mm jack socket for connecting the headset (which incorporates in-canal earphonesFM radioaerial (for non-Snapdragon based variants), microphone and volume control) and a pinhole microphone; at the bottom is the industry-standard micro-USB socket for charging and data transfer, another pinhole microphone, and the well for storing the stylus; and the sides house an on-off button and a volume control.
